THE CHALLENGE: Design and implement a temporary tactical plaza in less than 5 months at the corner of a centrally located public parking lot in downtown Newton.

HOW WE ADDRESSED IT:

• Active and responsive community engagement

• Several interdepartmental stakeholder groups

• Co-creation process with the planning department

• Pavement graphic painted by intergenerational volunteers

SURPRISE! Business owners who were initially opposed became supporters of its continuation after the 6-month trial.
